We asked the NAGTAD members which of their training programs/services are requested the most and why. Here are the results.
Rob Virts in Montana: ”The most requested is stress management (but I can only present this on my free time so I do not do it that often any more). I think because it is only an hour long and is extremely interactive and experiential.”
Katy Cove in Kentucky: “Effective Meetings and Customer Service—change of administration does not know what was done before, so they are repeating training done for offices.”
Jane Bozarth from North Carolina: “Positive Thinking in Negative Times”—conference presentation—good for keynote/luncheon, fun topic."
E-learning consultation: Everybody wants to get started…”
Tracy Connelly from Delaware: “ The majority of my employees request defensive driving class so they can get the insurance break! The classes on interviewing and applying for jobs is also popular.”
Jody Zauha from Idaho:
“We have approx. 25 different courses in 5 curricula, and the clients are all state government managers, supervisors, or professionals in a particular field (nonsupervisors).
Of those 25 courses, probably 80% of our course delivery comes from 50% of those curricula. The skewed demand mostly attributable to two things: (1) statewide training requirements for supervisors/managers or (2) specialized training requirements within a particular state government department.
Examples in no particular order:
Laurette Burdyl from South Carolina: “Supervisory training – there is a huge need for basic supervisory training – we offer an open enrollment schedule where agencies can enroll individuals or agencies request customized supervisory training geared around their HR policies and procedures.”
Penny Jamvold from Kansas: “Teambuilding sessions – due to generational, cultural, and personality differences.”
Kathy McNeill from Montana: “Two of our Management series are the most requested; Basics of Management (for non-supervisors looking to move up) and Essentials of Management (for supervisors)."
